Tradition

 

Tom Bendelow, one of America’s pioneer golf course architects designed more than 400 golf courses.  Two of those were in Medinah in Chicago and Tripoli in Milwaukee.  Bendelow placed a premium on accuracy, as his many tree-lined fairways attest.  He’s known for challenging golfers with doglegs bending in either direction, creeks and ponds and a variety of sloping lies.  At Tripoli, he combined his trademarks with a rolling terrain that includes one of the highest elevations in Milwaukee County to form a unique course.  The 6,500-yard layout requires amateur and pro alike to use every club in the bag.  The course has, through the years, hosted numerous amateur and state opens as well as PGA Tour events like the Miller Open and the Greater Milwaukee Open [US Bank Championship].  Only the shot makers would win championships but the challenge remains for those who are willing to accept it.
